Wind Turbine Fire Protection
Wind turbines face elevated fire risk from electrical components, lubricants, and confined enclosures located in remote, hard-to-access environments. Orbis Fire Suppression provides enclosure-level wind turbine fire protection that detects and suppresses fires directly inside critical turbine components, helping prevent escalation, reduce damage, and protect assets with reliable, self-contained operation.
It Can Take Up To 18 Months To Re-commission A Wind Turbine

1/75 Wind Turbines Are Bound To Experience A Fire In Their Lifetime
According to a GCube Report, a wind turbine fire incident can cost up to $4.5 million. Wind turbines are composed of highly flammable materials such as hydrailic oil, lubricant, composite materials, insulation, and polymers. Certain components in the nacelle may fail and cause sparks, which may catalyze into a fire with the materials mentioned above. Our fire suppression systems are contained in these vulnerable areas to eliminate the inherent risk of self perpetuating flames by extinguishing the fire seconds after it has commenced.
Our ILP system discharges a fully dielectric FK-5-1-12 suppressant virant directly over the electrical switching cabinets and lubricant reservoirs located inside the nacelle of the wind turbine. It is proven to be the most effective fire suppression protection for wind turbines. The low initial cost of owning our systems perfectly meets the needs of wind turbine operators.
Cost Savings
Unprotected fire events in wind turbines often lead to extended downtime, complex insurance claims, and costly equipment replacement. A single turbine taken out of service can result in significant daily revenue loss, and repairs or replacements may take weeks or even months depending on location and damage severity.
Orbis® Fire Suppression systems are designed to detect and suppress fires at their point of origin inside critical turbine components, helping limit damage and reduce recovery time. By controlling fires early, Orbis systems support faster return to service, lower repair costs, and reduced operational disruption—protecting both turbine assets and long-term project economics.

The Orbis® Solution
Orbis solution for wind turbines
Orbis systems deliver automatic, enclosure-level fire suppression designed to protect critical wind turbine components where fires most commonly originate.
What this means for wind turbines:
Fast suppression inside nacelles, cabinets, and converters
Reduced damage to high-value turbine components
No water, no residue, no cleanup
No impact on adjacent systems or structures
Reduced downtime after a fire event
Orbis systems use clean agents suitable for electrical and mechanical hazards:
FK-5-1-12
CO₂
Properties:
Non-conductive (FK-5-1-12)
Zero residue
Non-corrosive
Effective in confined turbine enclosures
No water damage. No post-discharge cleanup.
System Options for Wind Turbine Protection

Direct Low Pressure Clean Agent Release System (DLP)
Orbis Fire’s DLP fire suppression systems activate in seconds, using a heat-sensitive tube to release clean agent directly at the ignition point. Stainless steel, DOT & CE approved for global safety.

Indirect Low Pressure Clean Agent Release System (ILP)
Orbis Fire’s ILP fire suppression systems separate detection from discharge, using sensors or control panels to trigger clean agent release through nozzles. Stainless steel, DOT & CE approved for reliable protection worldwide.
Why Orbis® for Wind Turbines
- Rapid, Automatic Fire Suppression
Orbis systems are engineered to detect fire conditions inside wind turbine components and respond immediately—suppressing fires at the point of origin before they can escalate into catastrophic turbine loss.
- Designed for Electrical & Mechanical Fire Risks
Wind turbines combine high-voltage electronics, power converters, lubrication systems, and confined spaces. Orbis systems are designed to address these combined risks inside nacelles, cabinets, gearboxes, and control enclosures.
- Pre-Engineered and Easy to Install
Orbis systems are pre-engineered for turbine applications and can be integrated directly into nacelles, electrical cabinets, and control enclosures without complex system design or structural modification.
- Self-Contained — No Power Required
All detection and actuation functions are mechanical and self-contained. Orbis systems require no external power, electrical connection, or water supply—ensuring reliable operation in remote and unmanned turbine locations.
- Cost-Effective Asset Protection
Early, localized suppression helps prevent extensive damage, long outages, and costly turbine replacement. Orbis systems reduce the financial impact of fire events by limiting damage and shortening recovery time.
- Reliable and Proven Technology
Orbis fire suppression technology is field-proven in harsh industrial environments, providing dependable protection for critical wind energy assets operating under continuous load.
- Minimal Maintenance
With few moving parts and no reliance on electrical components, Orbis systems require minimal maintenance—ideal for turbines located in remote or difficult-to-access sites.
- Compact Design for Confined Spaces
Compact system design allows installation inside tight turbine enclosures where traditional fire suppression systems are impractical or impossible to deploy.
